Product Description
Compared with foam pads and self-inflating mats, the advantage of inflatable mats is that the property of heat retention (R-value) has the possibility to be designed to achieve a much higher level under the premise of small size and light weight.
Heat Retention: Whether the moisture-proof pad can accommodate the changes of temperature and weather at the campsite or not seems the most important. The R- value of this product is 3.8, and the recommended outdoor temperature is above -5° (Due to personal physical differences, the temperature scale is for reference only). It should be noted that the high R-value merely indicates the moisture-proof pad is quite effective in insulating heat. The pad itself does not emit heat, so even if the ambient temperature is a bit higher than usual, it still is able to employed, such as in the situation of 15 to 20 °. Moreover, because the air cushion has high level of heat retention, the thickness of the sleeping bag can be appropriately reduced to realize the objective of losing weight. In order to tackle the extreme weather for its unpredictable temperature, sleep system normally needs to function itself effectively to the highest limit. Therefore, the air cushion with high R-value has the ability to adapt to a wider range of temperatures, better cope with the immediate drop in outdoor temperature and to increase sense of security.
Currently, the major methods to boost the R-value on the market are: 1. Fill with insulated cotton or down, which has the disadvantage of largely increasing the volume and weight. The weight of traditional air cushions in the market which is stuffed with insulated cotton and the R-value is about 5 remains basically around 1kg. 2. Increase the density of the air chamber by layering, hence reducing cross-ventilation and keeping warmth. 3. Add heat reflective materials to diminish heat radiation. 4. A combination of the above. This design employs a patented technology of three-layer solid thermal reflection structure
a. Because the gross thickness is about 7cm, and the thickness of the single layer has been dramatically reduced, which means that the points of each layer become denser. On the one hand, it vastly improves the density of the air chamber as well as reduces the heat convection; on the other hand, the number of overall force bearing points is augmented, and the safety of the product is enhanced. This type of design reduces cold spots and deals with the issue of poor support and stability of ordinary air cushions, and meanwhile greatly improves the R value. b. Add aluminum films to the upper, middle and lower levels. These films not only increase the radiation of heat but also isolate each layer of the air chamber, further reducing air convection. Each layer of aluminum films has a hole in the material bonding spot centrally. In this way, the aluminum film will not stick tightly on the surface or on the bottom of the fabric. Its advantage lies in: it tremendously reduces the noise and reveals quieter quality than similar products with aluminum film in the market. Its disadvantage lies in: it¡¯s a more complicated technology to cut the aluminum film open, which will lessen the R-value. However, the effect of noise reduction is still salient. Among the process, a type of thin film is added, which further separate the air chamber and increase heat retention.
Safety: The largest challenge for inflatable mats is airtightness. Once there¡¯s a leak, the function of the inflatable mats will lead to a complete obliteration. Compared with traditional air cushions, the structure has been designed to vastly increase the number of force bearing points, so as to guarantee the safety of this product to a greater degree. The outer structure adopts a composite of 20D nylon fabric and high-strength TPU, and the inner part is thickly coated to ensure the fastness of the fabric.
The interior exploits a thinner and high-elastic TPU film as its structure: 1. Because of its high elasticity, the thickness of the inflatable mat remains flexible, changing from the range of 7 to 8 cm, which can not only satisfy the needs of increasing amounts of people for both the softness and hardness of the sleeping pad, but also further adapt to the thermal expansion and contraction caused by the variation of ambient temperature. It can also diminish the frequency of inflatable mats¡¯ burst resulting from the abrupt heating or sun exposure, thus enhancing security in an enormous manner. 2. The strength of the internal TPU film is weaker than that of the external composite fabric. Consequently, whether it is external force or reaching the limited load-bearing range by heating up, the first tearing part is supposed to be the internal point, that is, frequently recognized as the bursting point, on account of the isolation between each two points as well as the fact that the number of force bearing points is much more than the dot matrix in traditional air cushions. Thus it will be of no influence in using when there appear a few of bursting points, and as long as the outer layer stays sealed, the entire product is airtight. While most ordinary air cushions are prone to a whole pack of leakage or a wide range of bulging if there¡¯s just a minor tear. This also further improves the safety of the product. 3. For the situation where a leak happens due to spiking, it¡¯s equipped with TPU repair pads that are able to conduct a simple maintenance.
